Sheet Music

What is a Midi file?: Midi is Musical Instrument Digital Interface which was a system designed to transmit information between electronic musical instruments.

That was the definition. Now let me explain what this means to you fans downloading and listening to Midi files. Think of a Midi file as pages filled with music notes (sheet music). Now depending on who reads and plays that music is the sound you will get. So if you relate that to computers, what a midi file sounds like on my computer is going to sound different on yours. Some people's computers play great sounding Midis where as others it sounds terrible. If you have Windows XP they have a good software synthesizer built in. You can also download or buy software synthesizers. Yamaha makes a good software synthesizer and also there is a free one called WinGroove. A software synthesizer is a driver that installs in your system. Without getting too elaborate I've tried them all and find Yamaha's to be the best. WinGroove is usually a huge improvement as well. Of course this all depends on your software and your built in sound card. There is also software Midi players but Winamp or Quicktime should play them fine.

With the above said I am constantly getting asked by people if they can have a Midi file that plays on the site so that they can burn a CD and listen to it. I'm sure it can be done, but I have yet to find a way. If and when I do I will convert some to Mp3's and place them in the Sound Downloads. The Midi files are small and great for background music on websites. I hope that you all enjoy our new Midi section.
